Art Therapy & NDIS

Funding for NDIS Art Therapy can be accessed depending on your recovery goals.  Under the NDIS , Art Therapy, is provided as an allied health service and can be incorporated in your NDIS budget. 

If you are Self Managing your plan or are Plan Managed, you will be able to access Art Therapy with Melbourne Sandplay & Expressive Therapies.

As a qualified Art Therapist registered with ACA Level 4 College Of Creative Arts Therapists, fees are in accordance with the NDIS price guide which state $193.99 per hour.

Fees are  charged under  15_610_0128_1_3 - Assessment, Recommendation, Therapy or Training - Art Therapist.

Art Therapy is usually funded from the Improved Daily Living budget.

Goals of Art Therapy

Art Therapy provides a safe, non judgmental, and controlled environment where you can begin to grow and heal.  In Art Therapy, people can explore and express their thoughts, emotions, experiences, and perceptions of themselves through art.

Goals:

  • Bypass verbal requirements to encourage self expression and communication

  • Calm the mind and reduce stress

  • Use creative tools modified to accomodate various fine motor skill challenges

  • Decrease feelings of helplessness

  • Decrease feelings of hopelessness

  • ​Boost relaxation for people with chronic pain

  • Improve motor function, supporting cognitive retraining for those with brain injuries

  • Improve cognitive function and quality of life

  • Encourage self -discovery and emotional growth

  • Provide emotional and physical integration

  • Explore feelings and mental health issues
